Hi all,

Picking up a 2nd hand Santa Cruz Chameleon next week. Merlin has an offer on the Avid Juicy Carbon brake set - anyone used these at all?

I do a bit of DH and technical stuff up in the Highlands and need a reliable set of brakes that are easy to service (and look good smile )

Personally I find Avids a real faff to bleed and sold mine to mk1fan whom will be along to tell us how easy it easy to follow the 4 step process as apposed to Shimano's 1 step process.

But they are nicely made and do work very well, just I prefer the maintenance angle of the Shimano's.

ETA - I had the ultimates which we Carbon and they are lovely wink

The problem is my bling habit is starting to surface again - I have no need for 203mm discs and these brakes but somehow I MUST have them. I did consider just sticking to Shimano's but it seems rude not to get something nice when I am getting my ultimate hardtail frame smile

The Avids are very good but need to have 5.1 Dot fluid in them and braided hoses to be 'Alp' proof. Although a Code front caliper would be ultimate set up.

I really like mine, great feel and very powerful. I've got Sevens on the Stiffee and Ultimates on the S-Works. I've a set of BB-7's for my new commuter.

Too late, buying fever took over this morning and I got them along with a nice new wheel set for the Chameleon.

Putting the bike together next weekend as long as all the bits arrive smile

Shame I haven't been out in a few months, so not looking forward to the drastic fitness battle again.

Bikes shaping up nicely though even if i'm not!

Managed my first run on the Chameleon today as a shake down. My god the carbons are powerful brakes (ok the 203 front and back is ott but hey..).

The only issues are my fitness and ability on the bike I have TBH.

The Chameleon feels great on climbs and felt absolutely planted when I hurled it down my favorite long test hill. Now all I have to do is get fit again to enjoy our local bike parks and I cant wait to test it out on Laggan and Golspie etc.

Other than the Ultimates, Oro Puro's, Brembo's etc etc biggrin

Juicy Carbons are pretty good though, they do apparently get a bit hot when worked hard, and I can agree they are a sh*t to bleed, along with all other Avid brakes!

Solid choice though smile
