A mate has recently joined our MTBing group but after a trip to CwmCarm and Llandgela he's fed up riding his million year old rigid Raleigh.

So, with a grand budget of £200 (max) he'd like to pick up a hardtail. Bike age is irrelevant, but it needs to be servicable and ready to hit the trails. 17" frame ideally, possibly an 18.

Do you have or know of anything going?

e-Bay best bet - although a used bike may need a service.

New bikes? - Well he maybe able to get an 07 Carrera Vulcan from Halfords for £230ish. All revews I've read say it's a proper mtb for clunker (not Klunker) money. Alternatively, if you can get to a Decathalon store their range of bikes are always excerllently spec'd and punch well above their price bracket.

Yeah cheers mate, we've got all of these bases covered, I was just wondering if anyone had or knew of a bike going for cheap.

Secondhand Giant XTC hardtail? Put a decent fork on the front and they make a very underated budget trail bike IMHO.
