A few friends and I are planning a reasonably long road ride that will clock approximately 100 miles in a day.

Whilst RAC and AA both do route finders that we can use to look at routes and trip distances, these do not give any information about gradients that we are likely to encounter.

Are there any software packages (free to download, cheap, or expensive yet comprehensive) that anyone can recommend that could give us a plot / idea of what we are likely to encounter .... the direction we choose to take our ride, and diversions around large hills, could depend on it.
