I'm building up a Cannondale 1FG Ultra frame at the moment- it is going to be a single speed/fixed city hack.
So far the problems that I have run into centre on getting 135mm spaced hubs with 700C wheels.

Now I have another problem- a big one.
The frame has only got disc brake mounts.

Therefore I need to use a front disc brake- but the Profile Aero OS bars that I have are two large a diameter for normal disc brake levers to go round.
I've already bent a set of Avid Juicy Fives to death proving this...

Anyone know of a brake lever clamp that can go round large diameter bars?

Hubs are available easy enough, you will obviously have to lace them in.Bontrager do some cheapies if i remember right, Bontrager .com,wheelworks, road, select, disc.Or if you must have a singlespeed/freewheel/screw on any 29er ss hub instead of a freehub will do.Just put the right axle in with the right spacing, 135 or 130,depending on frame.
Come across the issues with diameter of bars only once, theres a solution for cable levers but never found one for disc.I'm guessing you would have to change the bars.

If you use cable actuated, mechanical, disc brakes you can get road or time-trial levers for oversized bars from multiple manufacturers.

thats exactly what i was referring to, although they don't have much movement, don't have a good feel or much to grab a handfull of when a car pulls out on you smile The ones on my tt bike are a token gesture for the officials!

I had considered going down the mechanical route- Avid BB6's probably.
But... I am a big fan of brakes that work!

What would the implications be of swaappingg the O/S bars for standard ones, and then using shims to get them to fit in the stem?

I don't want to be out of the saddle sprinting only to find the bars rotating in the stem...

Big braking power is a bit of a waste if you have limited road grip.

This is true, but I also wanted to be able to swap the GP4000's for cyclocross tyres and zoom along some light offroad should the mood take me.

Mat, you were quite correct- been down the LBS and the route to go is mech disc brakes.
No Hydro levers will fit with the bars, plus it would be well over braked.

Now to source the brake....

The Avid BB-7 Road version of their mechanical brakes will work with, suprise suprise, road levers.

As for wheels, I just bought a set of these for my replacement commuter build. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...
