Going to need to get some new pads for my XT hydraulics soon, and wondered if anyone knew what pads came fitted as standard in these? Don't know whether to get the metal or fibre pads. Also, are there any better pads than the Shimano ones(not that I have had any trouble with them, just wondering)?

A2Z pads are a good replacement, the Shimano XT's come with Resin pads as Standard, there is no noticeable difference in performance from A2Z or Shimano both work well and last well.

Aztec pads are shite. Leave well alone

The ONLY pads worth buying are Goodridge Sintered pads.

Don't skimp on quality when it comes to pads - especially if flinging yourself down big mountains...

If you get Shimano pads, they're good, but don't wear as well as Goodridge, nor handle the heat as well; never mind the XTR ones are titanium backed and cost a ferkin fortune ;D

Neil I wasn't referring to Aztec pads but A2Z and seeing as I didn't die nor cause myself any major injury in the Alps with them last year or at Coed, Afan, Cwn Carn then I standby my recommendation for them, Aztec on the other hand would not have featured in ANY recommendation!!!

Maybe we should have asked the OP the type of riding he does before you dismiss other manufacturers, the Goodridge look good value though but 50% more expensive than the equivalent A2Z pad but still cheaper than the Shimano.

Well atom, you've obviously got your head up your arse about something, however, i did realise that he was refering to the a2z pads.

I've not used them so i cannot comment on them, so i didnt. However i can comment on the aztec pads, and how bad they were for me in france - overheating badly, and wearing far too quickly.

I put the goodridge pads on, and had NO more problems thereafter.

I'm happy to say that they are way worth the extra outlay - they outlast the shimano pads 2 to 1...

It doesnt really matter what the op does re his riding - yes we know sintered pads may not be suitable for all - however he asked for peoples opinion and i gave mine.

Fancy a hand down off that high horse of yours?

Neil what are you talking about I was talking about A2Z the OP was asking for opinions. I was just putting across my personally experiences as were you, Not really sure of your issue, I know it's disappointing Cwn Carn was shut but don't take it out on me.

Thanks for the replies guys, no need to fight over it thoughhehe I mainly ride xc, nothing too extreme, but would still rather have the best pads I can get.

Yes seems to have got a bit out of hand I like A2Z, Neil likes Goodridge, I don't think you can go wrong with either and both are cheaper than the Shimano's.

I'd probably give the Goodridge a go once my A2Z's are done as they look to be good value.

Good luck with which ever you choose.
