I know nothing at all about bikes except my mate has spent his childrens inheritance on a Santa Cruz somthing or other.

But now my lad is at the right age I can go cycling with him a bit and I'd like to get a decent bike for raod and easy tracks.

I'm more than open to an eBay second hand bargain, but what to get?

Lightness seems the key to me but do I want suspension? Front, full??? HELP!

Last time I cycled I was in short trousers!

I'd imagine a rigid or short travel front suspension hybrid bike would be a good buy from what you've said. Most of the big manufacturers offer good bikes for £300 in this category.

Marin, Specialized or Trek, anything from them will be good.

Are any much lighter than the others?

Or am I barking up a wrong tree here being obsessed with low weight?
