Rear shock recommendations?
Discussion
I've got a Specialized FSR XC Comp (06) and I quite fancy having a Pro Pedal shock to save me having to lock it before I go up a hill. Can anyone recommend a good XC shock with Pro Pedal for under £200?
I've seen a few and they don't have lockout. Is that because lock out is less of a necessity if you have Pro Pedal?
Cheers

'Pro Pedal' is a Fox system so if you're after that particular system you'll have to choose from their range. Other makers do similar systems but the general industry concensus is that Fox seem to be the 'best'. You'll still need to flick a lever though to activate it though.
Alternatively you could get your existing shock custom valved to match your weight. Should only be £20 over and above the cost of a routine service.
Third option - if you have a fox shock - and that is to get Pro Pedal retro fitted to the shock (iirc £25 at Mojo) during the next service. This however is a system that is always 'on' so better suited to XC to Racing end of the mtb spectrum.
I've only had a Fox shock so I have experienced other makes. Atom111 had a Manitou unit on his first Orange Five that was very bad / unreliable.

Fox RP3?
Cool - found one for £165 at merlin http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&prod... that doesn't seem too bad.mk1fan said:

Depends on the model. The Float has no PP.
The Float R has no lever, so the PP is always active.
The Float RP2 has PP on/off lever.
The Float RP23 has the lever, plus adjustment knob so PP can be on or off. When on, the knob allows 3 levels of PP.
TF can customise the internals of the shock (inc. PP settings) to your weight, riding style and specific bike. It's ~£120 after-market or only a £30 premium if specified when buying a new shock direct from them (bargain!).
I got a RP23 Push'd bought it new from TF so a PDV6 say £30 premium is a relative bargain.
I am very pleased with RP23 once i'd got it setup first few rides it seemed to sag more up-hill than the previous Manitou but once i'd got used to that and set it up correctly it's been awesome and appears to chew through bushes less regularly then the Manitou did
