Upgraded my cranks to the latest 08 XT kit, and had a much needed new chain fitted at the same time.

Fancy getting a new cassette to complete the new drivetrain setup.

Anyone recommend from experience what they regard as the best for about the £40-50 upper budget.

SRAM vs Shimano? XT vs LX?

9 speed by the way.

I'd go Shimano XT think they are 29.99 at Chain Reaction at the moment.

Ive wanted an XTR ti cassette for ages but just cant bring myself to spend the money on one, £90 is a lot for a cassette.

I did spend £90 on an XTR Ti Cassette and it was like cheese and did not last very long!! It ended up in the bin at Coed y Brenin after not many miles with worn teeth it was slipping really badly. It was light but it did not last like an XT cassette does having been there and tried that i'd never spend that again on a cassette.

Thats pretty much how I thought one would end up!

At least its close to the point of rotation so the mass doesnt impede on pedaling too much. There's much better places to save weight with that money I guess.

I am not sure I ride at a level where it made any difference, I got around the MBR loop as fast with the XTR cassette as the XT wink

Your right great place to save weight though.

I think what _daveR was actually saying is that tyres/rims are a better place to save weight - mass further from the axle takes a lot more accelerating than a cassette does. Moment of inertia is proportional to radius squared, so losing 10g from your rims is worth the same as losing 680g from your cassette, in terms of effort to accelerate the rotation (330mm radius versus 40mm as an approximation).

Spot on wink

Thats why Im going for some 819's over my current 721 rims.

08 XT cassette just fitted. Well light compared to the one that came off, and looks trick with the sprockets hanging off their cradle.

Anyway, acid test will be tomorrow morning smile

Where will you be testing tomorrow? Just fitted an LX cassette going to see how that goes against the normal XT one's I buy.
