My garage was broken into the other night and my Giant Trance 4 with Hayes HFX 9 Hyd discs and Rockshox Tora 318 forks was taken.

I'm starting this thread for 2 reasons:

1. If anyone sees this bike for sale or out and about, please PM me.

2. To warn everyone about security of garages in blocks - there's been a lot of garage break-ins in my area (St. Ives, Cambs) recently, and the SOCO officer told me that the gang was moving through the county, but I saw on a forum today that the same thing has happened further north too. If you have a garage in a block, park your car right up against it, or get a seriously substantial lock on it- they cut through the staple and hasp on mine. (Padlock not damaged)

The bike had a Sold Secure Gold lock on it, but they still took it, and left other stuff which wasn't locked.

Its a shitter when you cant have something that you buy with your hard earned cash. I hope you had it insured mate !!It might soften the blow a little bit if you know you are going to get a new one at the end of it. If its not insured then i reaily feel for you. I cant say (hope you get it back) As i very much doubt you will. ATB.

I had a bike stolen from my garage in the same scenario as you describe, it was insured but it still made me feel sick that someone had been in and moved a lot of other stuff to get to my bike, including moving a mk1 raleigh chopper which was worth a considerable amount!
Some house insurances cover bikes even if they are stored in a garage block away from the house so it's worth checking if you don't have it insured else where.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, I'm insured, so I'm currently doing a bit of research, but I'll have to wait and see how much the insurance co. give me, as to what I can afford to get.

Do insurance cover bikes and stuff on a new for old basis, or are you gonna be lucky to get a few hundred for what you might be able to pick up a second hand bike for?

When i had mine stolen the insurance company asked for a written quote from a bike shop quoting how much it would cost to get a replacement bike of the same spec. As i built the bike up myself i just wrote down every component and what it cost me and the local bike shop quoted this to the insurance company.

I insured my bike as a specific item on my household insurance policy, so I'm hoping they'll give me the RRP for it. They took a list of every component and modification I'd added to it, so I hope they'll take them into account too. I'd had it less than 2 yrs from new, and it was mint (obviously not used enough!)
