What frame would you recommend
Discussion
I fancy swapping my full on DH frame for something more all round. I plan on keeping the equipment on it though as I will still be quite rough. So it will be Hope Big 'Un hubs, MX6 forks (may go for single crowns when cash allows but they ride excellent) Hope 4 pots, Mavic DH rims, XT shift.
I want something with a fair amount of travel that can do DH but will also climb and have a triple ring. I know it won't be super light with what is going on but I am quite big and quite a hard rider so strength matters.

what about somwthing like mine?
there's one for sale on bike magic at the moment, think the guy wants £500 or so with the 5th element.
That looks quite good, I could always put my Fox Twin Clicker on and sell my frame with the lesser but brand new shock. How does it climb?there's one for sale on bike magic at the moment, think the guy wants £500 or so with the 5th element.
climbing eh?!?
my last bike was a hardtail jump frame i'd modified to ride technical alpine downhil, i had some pretty heavy componets on it 140mm forks and 2.7 high rollers on it. i thought that bike was a pig on climbs but the new bike seems really heavy and slow in comparison even to that.
bet it climbs better than a full blown dh rig tho.

I wanted a couple of reviews and couldn't even find the travel on the Commencal site.
It's brand new for 2008, so I imagine reviews would be hard to come by. it's a Meta 6, the 6 being 6" of travel. The 5.5 has 5.5" and the Meta 4, which is what i've got has 4". The more I ride my bike the more I like it, it handles so well, I bought it after taking peoples advice on here, although alot like the 5.5 for it's all-mountain capabilities.I've never been a fan of Scott's TBH, but £1000 discount is nothing to sniff at, maybe you could lok for a 2007 Meta 5.5?

Mine has 4" of travel so is much more xc focused and climbs brilliantly, the suspension design really does work well. The Meta range all have that same suspension design, so while the travel may be longer it should work just aswell, Neil & Rico both have the Meta 5.5 and reckon it climbs well enough for normal all day rides with mates.
You could look for something like a Spesh Enduro or a Yeti 575 - both are XC and offer 5-6" travel but can take the hard knocks as well as being able to climb. Should be plenty around if you're not after a new one. A friend has just bought a GT i-Drive 5.0 (I think) cos its quite chuckable and can take the punishment he gives it - he's a pretty good trials rider who can't ignore a 4X or DH track when he sees one, so his bikes take a fair bashing.

Neil's talking about running the Meta 5.5 at Megavalanche this year (with some DH-proof wheels on it) rather than the Supreme.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
