I am looking for some bike lights that are no more than £70 with a decent wide ish beam. I have oversized bars so they must fit them. I have been looking at those smart lights with 2 lights. I have found them on offer at a few online stores for between £30-£50. Are they any good ?? I would like 10 watts in each. Anyone with experience or good knowlage on lights please and i know you have to pay good money for a proper set of light but for the amount of times they will be used (1or 2 times a week) for off road riding and not for lighting up a back lane.

I use two Cateye LED units. £35 each. One to see the road, and one angled for people to see me.

Would you say they are bright enough to use for off road riding ?? Hammering down little bumpy paths without the light moving about and bright enough to stop me hitting objects in my way. lol

These Cateyes have been reported as getting complaints from tintops - "Your f****g light's too bright, its dazzling me".

So they must be good.

I bought those lights a few months ago Jago, and last week i bought an Enduro Maxx for off road riding.

They're excellent for commuting but I didn't feel they offered enough light when I used them off road hence the new purchase. IMO you'd be better off putting another £100 to your budget and getting a Joystick Maxx. Or even look at what Ay-Up are doing, their kit looks very good for a smallish budget.

Ive seen some cateye el-700 triple lights !! Any good ?? They are £100 reduced from £200. The review says they are slightly heavy but for that price can they be turned down ?

Looks alright. Here's a review and some beam shots - http://www.bikemagic.com/news/article.asp?UAN=4645

I'd still try and find the extra cash for a Joystick though, similiar power light but no wires, lengthy run times and easy to maintain.

Cheers for that wildcards, That is the review i read. I am on a very tight budget with it ben xmas and it been my second and cheaper hobby. I spent a fortune on my bike, Whels and bought a mavic seatpost but just cant stretch that much futher. I know what you are saying but when i try to tell my bird i wand to spend 70 quid on a set of lights she was not amused but i could squeeze 1 ton out of her but i know that 170 will be us no more. argue

Ive found the joystick for as little as £140 on the net for an 08 model which are suppose to be the ones to get so i think i will put a little bit more towards it and get the joystick maxx as advised. I cant belive how small they are.
The handlebar attachment doesnt seem very secure, But i cant find any reviews saying they arnt very good. Any comments ??

I haven't seen the mount for the Joystick, but I imagine it'd be the same as that for the bigger Enduro Maxx, and i haven't managed to shake it loose yet on the few night rides I've done. Good choice though, i'm sure you'll be very happy, the low setting on the Enduro gives the same Lumens as the Joystick and is still IMO good enough for off road night riding.

Whats the helmet mount like?

Hell ! 720 lums ! Thats some brightness. I bet it is as bright as day light. The race version is £200 and 480 lums so i might try to hold out for that. lol. This is where i always get into trouble, Saying if i just put a bit more to it ! Famous last words lol.
The helmet mount on it is suppose to work class from the reviews ive read.

Yeah, I started off wanting the Joystick a few weeks ago, only to find a mate had ordered the Enduro, after umming and arring about it I upped my budget considerably and bought the brighter one - I justify it by promising myself i'll be getting alot of use our of it.
