just been doing about 8 miles at least five days a week at the moment fairly undulating roads.

should i be doing more?!?

i don't need to get superfit or anything just a bit of prep for snowboarding and MTB in the summer :-)

cheers,

rick.

Well I used to do about 7 each way commuting, but on a heavy old singlespeed, which kept me pretty fit.

If I've got the spare time and I'm on my road bike, I'll do 40+ miles. You can keep such good average speeds up on those things that big mileages are pretty easy.

last year my daily average worked out at 52kms.Over the year, 18928kms, which is more than i did in my car.....which would have been far cheaper to run too judging by the price of bike parts.

Did 29 miles on the road yesterday and a low 8 miles off road today but not bad as a total.

Next weekend I suspect I will do mainly off-road miles, probably 20 on saturday and 12 - 15 on the Sunday all being well.

I guess you do as much as you can or want to do. Better doing 8 miles than 0 miles

Cool, there are some cool routes out of near where i live, it is a real mix of on road and off road cycling, for example riding out from exeter, through danes woods, killerton woods and loop back through Ashclyst forest.

Been riding a lot up at haldon forest to, but its much more technical riding, if i drive up there i do not do great distances, maybe 5 to 7 miles.

If you are intrested in ride some time PM me, there are a few of us most sundays, it would be fine if you wanted to come.

I used to do 20-25 each day commuting in London but now live out in the sticks so usually only manage to ride on weekends. Then I try to do 60-90 miles on the road bike.

Far cry from my youngster days when I'd do 200-250 miles per week. It'd kill me now!!!

new years resolution was to ride into work

done it twice so far - approx 26 mile round trip. if i can keep this up in jan/feb i will be very chuffed - bit chilly at the mo!

not sure what is more scary the canals at night or the euston road at rush hour....

I do roughly about that distance on average (more in the summer though)
I think that's enough for a fairly good level of fitness to be achieved, I feel it works for me, depends how fast you go though. My training ride is 9.3 miles on undulating roads and I do 31 - 35 mins depending on conditions, traffic and bike (have a few). I do that 2-4 times a week but ride other shorter trips too. It will put your fitness WAY above the average couch potatoes that make up most of the UK population, certainly I found cycling helps a lot for snow sports.

small update:

very much into the road bike now!

kept the 8-9 mile loops up at least 3-4 times a week and when i've had the time done a few 20 mile +rides.

do my 8 miles in about 25 mins at the mo.

trying to improve average speeds.

deffo feel fitter although the festive season has left me borderline alcoholic :-)
