Ignoring all those that said I shouldn't upgrade, I went out and got:

An LX Hollowtech crank biggrin

LX 9 speed cassette, LX chain and LX rapid fire shifters biggrin

Hayes HFX9 XC brakes with a 6" rear and an upgraded 7" front disc plus an XTR gear cable set biggrin

Got the old BB removed and frame faced for £10 at my LBS which I thought was very reasonable smile

Next up, I think a new fork is in order!

Much lighter than the generic Shimano one on there before!

I must say, those XTR cables with these shifters are soooo smooth! And the old derailleurs work perfectly smile

However, I found in the past with XTR cables these rubber dirt covers seem to come off sometimes and run along the cables, so I've cabled tied them which I think should stop this without restricting the cable.

So there you go. Way too much invested in an average bike frame but it's been fun and I can't wait to ride it! Now, perhaps I'll get a frame and fork kit from Merlin scratchchin

Now you have all this new kit. Take the cassette guard off and the warning stickers!

Cool, enjoy. Funnily enough Santa has visited me early this year aswell, he dropped off a nice new Enduro Maxx LED light today via a friendly courier man. It's so powerful it peels wallpaper from 10 paces! i'm well chuffed.

Money well spent, especially the XTR cables.
