You are right. Nuts

Replacement frame cost (giant "goodwill" deal) £895.

Double nuts.

With the increase in available budget and the new found lightness of full sus bikes, I may well give a full sus bike a go. As long as I can lock out the suspension, I cant see any disadvantages.
The top runners are Gary fisher, Trek, Merlin and Orange.

From what I can see Orange are more down hill bikes but I know very little and rely on a good friend who runs a bike specialist shop.

Any opinions?

Orange Five; all the Commencal 5.5's; Cove Hustler are all 'perfect 10' Trail Bikes.

Commencal 4.'s for more XC but again a perfect 10.

you get a lifetime frame warranty with the Giant(as of last year) and Trek/GFisher.

scott spark and scott genius are worth a look,

i have not actually ridden the spark myself, but was on a ride when my friend was test ridding one, he was very impressed and is now getting an 08 one,

however i have ridden a few Genius (and ransom)bikes, and i was impressed, good lookout and traction setting's, quite a few of my friends have them and rate them,

Warrenty is good too, worth a look and adding to your list of bikes to consider.

Have you spoken to Giant?
Its worth a go cause they should replace the frame as long as its not to old or been misused.

I have talked to a giant dealer - less than helpful. Shame because it was a great bike.

The orange 5 is really taking my fancy. I also like the patriot.

Agreed but it is the same money as a decent Orange 5. The reviews say it is "bomb proof" and seeing as I am very capable of breaking a bike (not light, not graceful and not very skillful) it seems like a sensible option.

But as I have said many times, I also dont know what I am talking about so any advice is gratefully accepted.
