What is the easiest way of changing quick release wheels for bolt ons?

I never race so can afford to spend 30 seconds with a spanner and I also ride into Reading town centre and am fed up of having to remove the wheel so some scroat doesn't nick it as I'm crap at wheelies and definately wouldn't be able to ride home without the front wheel.

IF you meant 20mm bolt through then...new forks, new hubs and maybe a new frame?

You can get locking QR that you need a special key to undo them. Although you can undo them still if you put some effort in.

I you wanted to just replace the QR qith a bit of studding with a bolt each end done up tight? Maybe another one each end as lock nuts. You could still undo them but you'd need a spanner.

And you can undo the 20 Bolt throughs with the use of MR. Alan Key anyway.

You can buy new skewers to replace the QR ones that tighten with an allen key. I used them on my commutng bike with no bother.

So I can't just change the quick release to old fashioned bolt on wheels?

You'd need new shafts in the hubs.

As you haven't post what wheels you have there's know way anyone can answer if there is a kit available. If it's a cheap set of commuting wheels you need then buy a set that have nuts instead of qr.

I assume you have a mountain bike / hybrid of some sort.

These should be just the ticket for you:

You won't need to replace anything in the wheels with these. Just take the exiting QR out of the wheel and stick these in - BAM!

Though you can still remove the wheels if have a 5mm allen key handy. Your best bet is to get yourself a cheap cable lock and lock your wheels to the frame using that. Scrotes these days, if it's not NAILED down they will nick it just for the hell of it.

I've got those CRC ones on my cheap hack bike. Will deter the casual theif at least.

These Trans-X ones are a better bet if you're worried about theives with allen keys:

my bike is a 2007 giant xtc with disk brakes. I'll take a look at that amazon link. I could get a cable lock but it is another thing to lug around.
