Rear hub/cassette tech question.

Hi guys.
I am just in the process of ordering a new rear wheel from merlin.
It will be a pro2 hub on a dt4.2 rim.

Now the question is, can I mount my cheapo steel cassette (shim HG50 which is hardly worn) on the alloy free wheel, or will it chew up the freewhel splines?
Some folks say it's fine but as usual some say I should uprate to an xt cassette that comes with the srockets mounted on an alloy spider in order to avoid any damage.

Not sure what to only I'm keen to get this right without wasting money!

no worries, i'd do it and unless your pushing out some serious wattage you'll only get the usual marks in the freehub body.These can be taken off with a light file to aid putting the cassette on.
Its sometimes hard to take the cassette off because of the indentations.
As it goes, if you can ripp a freehub body, chains will be more of an issue

Personally, I'd swap the cassette for an XT or Sram 971 item. Yes, 'cheaper' cassettes can damage the freehub body on high end hubs but you do need to be putting out some wattage to do this.

Splash for a new cassette and eBay the old one.

Yes you can get replacement freehub bodies from Hope. Each component part is available as a spare.
