GHW (Ollie), theboymoon (Stu), Sir Jonny (Jon), and I (plus 2 mates) descended upon Cwmcarn today. Nice to meet you other guys, we'll definately have to meet up again in the spring for another ride, perhaps even start a regular thing for PH Pedal powered.
Cwmcarn was good, i've never been before and found the technical ascent of the Twrch trail very different to anything else i've done in Wales before, it would have been great if I was fitter.
Once we were at the top, Stu had a crack at the middle drop off at the start off the DH course, nutter, and quickly realised the crosswinds were quite stong when they caused his bike to pitch mid air, fortunately he managed a great rescue and didn't stack, it was however more than enough for the rest of us to forget any attempt we 'may' have been thinking about.
The first section of Twrch from the top saw my freewheel completely give up, we had a butchers to see if a trail fix was possible but it's fubar'd, so I was forced to walk the rest and ride the downhills. As for the downhills, I thought, and it was commented on by the others that they aren't very generous considering the climbing, infact, by comparison to alot of other trail centre rides i've done in Wales they're bloody mean, but, fast and flowing they were and hugely enjoyable, even more so I suppose if I had a working bike, but as things went on I got more annoyed with my situation. Credit to the guys, they took a steady pace and waited at the top of hills so I could push my way up, I found I was making best of what the Commencal had in the suspension and geometry department though and was steaming down the hills, i think i'll be keeping that short stem!
Heres to the next one, perhaps we could try Afan a little to the North next time?
Cheers guys, Steve

Sorry I couldn't make it today, glad you had a good ride bar the bike issue,
Cwn Carn is a lot of up for a little very fast down basically the pinnacle is the final down hill piece, Afan is far more generous in terms of up and down's of the two I much prefer Afan but is about an extra hour down the road.
Look forward to meeting up at the next one.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for a great day!
Echo the comments above, really good to meet you all and put some names to faces. Shame on you who didnt make it as the conditions were pretty much perfect for a Novemeber Saturday.
Lesson of the day for me were that jumps plus crosswinds dont mix now i know why the windsock is up there. so so so glad i didnt drop the bigger one on first attempt as it could have been messy.
Bugger about the freewheel, very nice bike though! I am sure you will get it back running soon and hopefully for no cost.
Packing the shock and fork up today to send to mojo so will be without a bike for a week now
It's only 1 3/4 hours from mine to Cwncarn so i would be quite happy to drive (a bit) further for the next one - no worries.
Afan in January anybody?
Moonie

My hand is healing up nicely, so much so that I'll be back on the bike tomorrow for the first time since it happened.
I enjoy CC alot and I think the climb is worth it. It's better than riding a fire trail up to the top. There are some local trails there too so maybe try one of those next time.
Afan in Jan would be good. Although there maybe some sections of trail closed for repair / improvements.
