Got to love that exchange rate.
Discussion
As some may have known, I had shown my interest in egg beater pedals in a thread not long ago.
Upon looking around the normal shops, I thought it was a lot of money for something which I might, after all, not get on with. Until I remembered about the American Dollar to Sterling exchange rate (just come back from Bahamas $$).
Chainreactioncycles.com prices for the following pedals.
Crank Brothers Mallet C £60
(No Postage)
Crank Brothers Mallet M £85
eBay from USA.
Crank Brothers Mallet C £30
(No Postage)
Crank Brothers Mallet M £40
So I thought it would be rude to not go for the magnesium ones
Postage at £6, still cheaper than the basic model from the rip off country we live in.

Just priced up the Thomson Stem and Post that I want, £125 compared to £160ish here. http://www.aspirevelotech.com
If they didnt get hit with tax then obviously its worth it. But Im not sure its worth the hassle to save thirty odd quid?
They *cough* put my Chris King headset down as worth *cough* $14... but no guarantees they do that on larger orders.
If not, www.chainreactioncycles.com are normally the cheapest in the UK and you get free next day delivery

Also, when it comes to Thomson, check ebay and the classifieds on www.singletrackworld.com as the stems generally go for £40 and seatposts £30-40 and often people sell virtually brand new ones for those prices. If you're not fussed about having brand new kit, its worth a look. Thomson stuff lasts for years.
If you think bike parts are expensive in the UK, consider that it is cheaper by about 40-50% to buy over the phone from Chain Reaction and have the parts flown to the other side of the planet to my door, than it is for me to wander 400m to my nearest bike shop and buy the parts over the counter.
P&P is about GBP25 but I don't pay VAT and generally personal imports under AU$1000 are not subject to GST here.
But even if I did have to pay VAT and/or GST its still cheaper to buy from CRC.
