The inlaws are going to be buying me some new flat pedals for Christmas for my Orange Crush. I was going to get some DMR V8's, but have just seen the Crank Brothers 5050. The Crank Brothers 5050 look quite good but get some mixed reviews of Chain Reaction Cycles. I have around £20-£30 to spend. Any recommendations ?

I've got V12's on my bike, and wouldn't swap them for anything. Might be able to hunt out a deal for a pair for your budget, or just go for V8's

Get the V8s they're lighter and cheaper. Only thing I would say is get unpainted, silver ones. Mine were originally black but the paint started flaking off after a few rides, so now they look very used.

Can't beat DMR V8's. I liked the look of the Crank Bros ones, but when you see them in person they are massive. Perhaps good if you have very very large feet.

I find the DMR pedals a bit small for my feet, so prefer the Azonic A-Frame pedal.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod... Bit out of your budget though, but might be worth adding £15 or so?

I haven't touched mine in about 8 years of ownership!!! Still going strong.

I wouldn't touch the 50/50s, bad shape and the stock pins are terrible.

For your budget I'd get some wellgo V12 copies, then you'll be getting sealled rather than loose bearings for your money.

V8s/V12s are "teh shnizzle", or whatever the yoof of today use to mean "rather good, ol' chap"

Those, plus a pair of 5.10s in the future, and you'll be well away. With tattoo'd shins, of course biggrin

That is THE badge of honour for DMR users. Was down Newquay in the summer and bumped into some BMX lads. I was sporting a fresh "mark", and straight away signalled the enquiry "DMR?" ... "Yup!" I replied.

For places like Cmncarn, I do always now wear shin / knee guards though ... Being granted a window to my shin bone if you do get bitten gets tiresome after a while ... Still wouldn't ride with any other pedal personally, and would never touch a 'spud' off road ... horses / courses

They do look nice pedals. Are they expensive?

LOL! Burgtec are £145!

Their RideWide handlebar is absolutely devine. They're quickly becoming my bike component company of choice cloud9

yes

Got another couple of stripes off my V12's last night, starting to look like a zebra! hehe

I ride them with 510 Impact 2 Mids. Very very good grip.

Might just have to get me a pair of FiveTen shoes as I've not read a bad thing about them smile

A worthy investment. They're as ugly as sin mind, and at £60 per pair from CRC not the cheapest "trainers" (?) around, but my, are they worth it. My feet have NEVER slipped nor skipped off the pedals despite my best, most ham-fisted (footed?!) efforts.

Just had a set of DMR V12's stuck on the beast, rode this morning....superb thumbup

Even with a plain pair of trainers, they're bloomin' impressive.

Trainers and skate shoes are what I find work best on DMRs .... For keeping warm and dry, they are not so ideal this time of year though.

Don't get the 5050 pedals, they look good but they are huge and the pins are just about useless, even the long pins are a bit rubbish. I agree with everyone else, DMR is the way to go. Gusset do a nice sealed pedal for about £30 too. Personally only ever use DMR though.
