Hardtail for £200?
Discussion
New or used, can anyone lead me to a half decent hardtail within the £200 budget? A mate of mine whats something for his lad so he can join the fun, he's a growing 5'10".
Age & condition isn't as important as getting a full bike, bits and bobs can be replaced fairly cheaply and servicing done for practically nowt.

Ooh, I can be first then, fleabay is probably your only option.
Look for Kona, Specialised, etc, I got a 2007 spesh hardrock for 220 with lights, helmet, lock and mudguards, so you should be able to do fine with 200. Best bet is to stick in your postcode and go for things that are close so you can look before buying, and save money on the postage.
More knowledgeable folk will be along later with more advice.

Yeah I thought that too, and have been trawling ebay for soem bargains but I think it's probably the wrong time of year for a bargain £200 bike on ebay. I didn't know if anyone had seen anything else for sale on one of the MTB specific websites.Look for Kona, Specialised, etc, I got a 2007 spesh hardrock for 220 with lights, helmet, lock and mudguards, so you should be able to do fine with 200. Might be able to help. Could you collect from Milton Keynes? Postage sucks for a full bike. Have emailed a mate who works for a distributor so may have some old stock knocking around. No promises but will see what I can do
Yep, i'm sure collection wouldn't be a problem for the right bike Rico. I appreciate your efforts.Well, to give you the 'new' option Halford Carrera Vulcan can be had for £225 on-line currently. WMB and MBR both rate this puppy as a proper mtb. Decathalon Rockrider range is worth a look to, iirc the 5.3 is £209. Edinburgh Bicycle Co-Op range of Revolution bikes cover this price too and are always good well spec'd bikes.
Other than that - eBay.
