How far and difficult is it?

I'm considering taking my 7 year old son, and my 12 year old brother on Saturday. I have no doubt my brother could manage it, but do you think it would be a bit much for a 7 year old?

There were a lot of bikers around when I went and it was mid week (appreciated was a bank holiday week though). I think there were a few kids around and I recon that there are enough areas to have a bit of a blast for the 7 year old.

If you are talking about the follow the dog loop then I would suggest otherwise. It is only short (12k i think) but is pretty intense and is really tight through the trees. I dont think there are any hardcore drops but 7 may struggle and get in the way of other people IMO.

In summary FTD would be great for 12 (particularly following his performance on the belvoir loop) but would not be suitable for 7. There may be other riding suitable but you may as well use swithland woods.

Off topic but your purchase sounds awesome. Was the amp a C340? and what was the cd (I am looking for one on and off)! Speakers?

Travelling back to work and getting really annoyed that the internet has broken at home so could not read this or get any email. Sorry chap. Back on friday though and will probably have next monday off too. May lube my bike then (thought it best to mention something to do with bikes as this is in pedal powered).

7 is a bit young to do the main sections of the dog I'd say but it does depend on the individual.
As half of the course is closed off at the mow i would go along anyway and pick and choose which sections to do and incorperate some green routes. Just take an OS map and compass, as some times it can get confusing!

Went over the Cannock this afto with my old man and 12 year old brother. Despite some re-routing of FTD we had a great time, a really nice place with some decent flowing single track.

Just just going some old posts an found this.
- Since i started on my year at JCB I do round FTD every friday afternoon (1 o'clock finsh at work) and am at cannock most saterdays or sundays im not going other things.

Its a good run, and as long as its not a busy day a severn yearold would be ok if hes fairly competant at riding a bike and your happy to wait!
- Its an ok run, apprently there are a load od other trails around the ftd area, but ive never really found much or looked too hard yet.

Certainly diffrent from llangdela

Llandegla is another place on my list to visit, heard alot about it this year, although it's a bit further than Cannock.

Yeah its a good ride.
- First time i 'did it' (red route) i was a tiny bit disapointed.
- Theres quite a climb at the start, and you just didnt seam to get value from it.

HOWEVER, i then went round the 'black route' (which uses much of the red route also) and that was/is one of the best rides ive done. Very good flowing runs and singletrack uphills and the lot.
- And on reflection, the red route is actutally pretty dam good too, as good as cannock anyway.

Hi all.

FTD's not too bad but there's no doubt that the best stuff on the chase lays elsewhere.

As ever, local knowledge is the key.

I know a few good bits myself, and are always happy to show others about if they fancy it.

Cheers,

Andy
