Are maxxis swampthing any good for an all rounder
Discussion
I am wanting to get some more tyres, I just got a high roller for the front and now thinking of getting a swampthing 60a for the rear. Will they be any good on rocks and hard packed surfaces ?? They would suit most of the surfaces that i do but unsure on the others. Ive read good reviews saying they are a good all rounder but i know they are good mud tyres but would like to hear of anyone who has used or is using them to see what you think of them. Failing them i was thinking about some 2.35 minion rear 2ply on 60a ??? What do you think ??
Singletrack Magazine did a fairly comprehensive group test on tyres not too long ago.
They said of the Maxxis Swampthing Super Tacky 2.35
"A nicely rounded profile that excells in mud, roots and wet cobbles. It wears fast and is a bit of a porker so best used sparingly. A tyre whose grip you can trust no matter how grim it gets."
The feature concluded by listing the best tyres for what surface:
Hardpack - Kenda Cortez 2.2
Loose Dry - WTB Epic Wolf 2.1
Rocks - Bontrager Big Earl 2.5
Mud - Schwalbe Black Shark Mud 2.1
Roots - Ritchey Motovader 2.4
Loam - Syncros BHT-2 2.35
Best all round combo - F: Kenda Nevegal 2.1 & R: Kenda Blue Groove 2.1

Thanks for the reply, Ive been out this morning and bought a panaracer rampage 2.35 for the rear and i have got a maxxis highroller for the front 2.35. I tryed my 3 local bike shops and no one had a swampthing in so im hoping my panaracer is going to be a good substitute.
Alot of my mates run the Panaracers and swear by them, never tried them myself, but I can't imagine they'd be bad.I tryed my tires over the weekend at scotland in the wet and dry and they worked a treat over hard packed stone, mud, rock and wood and they never let me down once, And even got me round a corner i was taking to fast and never thought i was going to make it. I was well impressed and rolled well too. I was using a maxxis minion DH 2.5 super tacky on front through summer and it was mint but heavy to use for long fast rides.
