ive decided to get myself a bike again and have pretty much decided on a specialized hardrock, but to be honest i dont know much about the difference in spec between the sport and pro versions. Price difference is £80 but i'd be stretching my budget a bit to go for the pro, so the question is is it worth spending the extra for the pro to get the different forks and gears (i dont really have a clue what the difference between them is). These are the Specs:

Specialized Hardrock Sport Hydraulic Disc 2007 Mountain Bike £369.00

* Frame: A1 Premium Aluminium with double butted top tube and forged dropouts with replaceable hanger
* Forks: RST Gilla Plus T7 with 100mm of travel and preload adjust
* Gears: Shimano Acera M-330 front and Shimano Acera M-340 rear derailleur
* Shifters: Shimano EF-50
* Chainset: Truvativ ISO Flow 3.0 for Power Spline with replaceable rings
* Brakes: Hayes Sole hydraulic disc with 6 inch v-cut rotors
* Wheels: Specialized/Alex HRD 26 double walled rims built on disc hubs disc
* Tyres: Specialized Resolution 26x2.1 inch with wire bead
* Handlebars: Alloy 25.4mm with 38mm rise 600mm wide 8 degree back and 6 degree up sweep
* Saddle: Specialized ATB Body Geometry
* Seatpost: Alloy micro adjust 30.9mm
* Pedals/Extras: Steel cage with plastic body pedals with chain stay protector and reflectors

Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc 2007 Mountain Bike £449.99

* Frame: A1 Premium Aluminium with double butted top tube and forged dropouts with replaceable hanger
* Forks: Marzocchi MZ Race LO with 100mm of travel and lockout with preload adjust
* Gears: Shimano Deore M-530 front and SRAM SX-5 rear derailleur
* Shifters: SRAM SX-5 9-speed triggers
* Chainset: Shimano FCM-442-8 with replaceable rings and alloy outer
* Brakes: Hayes Sole hydraulic disc with 6 inch v-cut rotors
* Wheels: Specialized/Alex HRD 26 double wall disc rims built on Specialized Hi Lo front and Shimano M-475 rear hubs
* Tyres: Specialized Resolution 26x2.1 inch with wire bead
* Handlebars: Alloy 31.8mm with 38mm rise 640mm wide 8 degree back and 6 degree up sweep
* Saddle: Specialized ATB Body Geometry
* Seatpost: Alloy micro adjust 30.9mm
* Pedals/Extras: Specialized alloy platform pedals with chain stay protector and reflectors

Thanks

So basically you are asking between a Hardrock Sport and a Hardrock Pro? wink

It depends on your budget. The automatic answer is the Pro as the forks are much better and the component set is much better. The frames will be exactly the same.

So....if you can afford the Pro, go for the Pro. Otherwise buy the Sport! smile

...and upgrade the sparkly bits as and when they wear out.

The Pro is worth the extra for the fork and mechs.

Things you will replace on the bike eventually? Fork and mechs amoung other things...

Don't get too concerned though. Both excellent starter MTBs and they have the same frame so don't feel bad about chosing the Sport because it's cheaper. You'll change most of the bits eventually.

That Dales Cycles place also has a 2007 Rockhopper 2007, V brakes instead of disks, but inbetween the other two at 399.99... good mix of Deore / LX components, better frame, decent fork, depends if you _need_ disk brakes for the riding you do, but I'm pretty certain it's upgradeable to disks in the future.

Have a scan through ebay for a nearly new bike for the same money. Maybe a rockhopper for that money ... or higher.

Definitely worth the extra.
