Disaster of a bike tour!
Discussion
I decided to head out with a mate for a f**king cold tour into the hills around Vienna. Apart from being so damn cold, my hands almost froze and my body felt like an ice cube, there was so much mud everywhere!!!!
It was so bad, the back wheel totally seized up with mud! Here are some pics of the day....
P.S. The photos don't totally show how bad it really was! I'd managed to poke out some of the mud by this point!!!

Whats the FSR Stumpy like? I was thinking about the FSR XC as a next purchase and a first step into full sussers. They are almost the same arent they? At least they look it on the pics, but the XC is cheaper.
The stumpy FSR is amazing....brilliant bike and great value for money within the price range. The stumpy would be more robust than the XC and more of an "All Mountain" bike rather than a Xtreme XC bike.I'd recommend the Stumpy FSR over the XC.

I've had mine over a year with no problems, and it handles trails like Cwmcarn without issue ...
I've got an FSR XC, mate has a Stumpy (Elite I think - nearly £2k worth anyway).
No doubt the Stumpy is better, but if you don't need the extra inch of travel or fancy spending the extra money on clothing / kit / accessories, the FSR is a very capable bike.
If I were to summerise the FSR, think 2 year old Stumpy design with new components. I'm sure plenty would argue differently though.
Most difficult choice is between bottom of range Stumpy & top FSR, especially as you can buy the 07 FSR for less than £1k

Looks like the cloggy mud we get in the woods near me.
Definately makes for interesting slides!
It was insane! I started going sideways and ended up putting the bike in the highest gear as I couldn't turn the wheel. It then totally seized up and I ended up dragging the bike off the trail...Looks like the cloggy mud we get in the woods near me.

Spot on. I got my XC from a guy on ebay. Barely used PRO in perfect condition for £800. XT where it counts and good spec that continues to get better as bits wear / break (as they always do).Best upgrade to any spec' IMO is to get some better rubber than whatever they left the factory with. I'm using Michelin XCR. Brilliant boots.
