Right, having now sorted out new BB, new cranks, new chain i have one more problem. On the ride to the office this morning (first ride since the repairs) there is a slipping sensation in the drive.

I.e. i'll be pedalling and then it'll slip, like the chain's slipped?

Anyone got any ideas? Could it be a stiff link, or is it something to do with the cassette / rear hub?

It's intermittent, but regular, i.e. it's happening say, every 5 rotations or so, and only when under 'strain' i.e. if i'm pedalling lightly in an easy gear it's sort of alright.

Thanks in advance

Surely it can only be the cassette now?

Unless you have a really weird mix of cassette/ chainrings and chain. Can you hear the chaim slipping?

New chain on old worn cassette will likely slip.

On another tack, I had a slightly dodgy freehub that used to slip from time to time - felt just like the chain slipping on the cassette. Had it serviced and now it's ok.

Right, will try a new cassette then... It's never ending this malarky!

It could be the freehub, but that never caused problems before...

Before you spend out on a new cassette just check you haven't got a stiff link in your new chain. You can check it by turning the pedals backwards. Watch the chain as it comes off the bottom jockey wheel. If the chain stays 'kinked' that link is stiff. Bending the chain perpendicular to the links (ie. in the direction it doesn't bend) should relieve it enough to work without affecting the connectiong pins.

Although it is more than likely to be the rear cassette.

95% probable that the cassette would cause this if everything else is new.

I couldn't understand this but (and i swear to god this is the only thing I changed) check out the adjuster that rotates the rear mech away from the frame a bit.
