Hi All,

If there are any Scott Scale owners out there, please could you tell me how in gods name the 'under the top-bar screw in cable routers' actually work? I built the entire bike in half a day, but then spent an entire day trying to work out how these goddam things work, before giving up and just running full outer cables from shifter to derrailers, front and rear. The rear brake cable hose seemed to fit nicely in to the larger side of the router, but for the life of me could not work out how the gear cables are meant to fix in to the other side

regards

Greg

Hi

I've got a '07 Scale 50 with the cable/hose brackets your having trouble with.

I've posted a few crappy phone pics of mine with the bolt and tapered block removed, hope it helps.

The tapered block just clamps the hoses/cables against the little plate on the frame.

Hope this helps.

p.s.

Are you building the bike from scratch, if so what sort of bits you added, i'm after doing a few mods to mine next summer.

Thanks

Chris

Thanks for that Chris - very helpful.

I have built a Scale 40 from scratch - here she is below -

Tried to keep the cost reasonable on this build, having just spent over £1.5k on a Cove Stiffe eek So I went for DT swiss rims on deore hubs, Deore groupset, Titec stem and bars, Avid Juicy 3s, and Marzocchi All Mountain 3's. I am really pleased with the result - i just love the frame though - its a 2006 Scale 40.

that looks really cool, you have a cove stiffee too, me too, just building a handjob xc as a 2nd lighter bike and trying to keep the cost down too, and failing,

your scale looks really good.

Cheers Pastrana thumbup i am pleased with the result too smile

I know what you mean about failing to keep the cost down - it's very difficult indeed. I basically did a lot of research on well reviewed budget products (eg the Titec stem gets rave reviews, is meant to cost less than £30 and i managed to get it for £14.99 from CRC!!!) and i also trawled the net for 2006/2007 kit at bargain proces - Merlin and CRS tend to be my main stops - got an excellent price on the wheelset. All in all i think i paid around £850 for the entire bike.

Chris, so am i right in assuming from your piccies that you do run full cable outers to both gear mechs?

Hi

Both the mech cables have outers that run below the top tube in the cable clips. (Is that what you meant?) The two gear cables run in one side of the clip with the rear brake hose on the other side of the clip.

I'll take some pics with a proper camera tommorow cos the phone pics are really poor!

Thanks

Thanks Chris - more pics would be great. I think i understand how you have it, but i just cannot see how you can fit x2 gear cables into one side of the clip - one side is smaller than the other on mine.

I am sure your pics will explain all

I've got them tyres on my Spesh XC. Only been on there for a couple hundred miles, but I think they are great, even if they do slide a bit when you lean them over and the knobbles on the edge give a little.

I like those tyres too. A similiar michelin got a really bad review in one of the MB mags, but i like them. Grip well enough, and they are very fast on garder surfaces, with very little rolling resistance on roads etc. At £15 a pop you cannot argue
