I recently started cycling again & got myself a Trek 6700, problem is it gets punctures like you would not believe, probably 1 in 3 times I ride it.

I also have an older GT Avalanche which I cannot remember ever having a burst tyre. Is there something with the Trek's tyres (Bontrager's) that makes them more prone to punctures? What do you guys recommend that may help?

Many Thanks

i ride Bontys and don't have a problem. It sounds like theres something stuck in the tyre.Turn it inside out and have a very close look, your fingers will catch on it when you rub the inner surface if theres something there.

Thanks, I'll have a look tomorrow. Is the rim tape or gel/slime worth getting?

Yeah, check for anything still in your tyres and make sure your running decent pressure in them, slime can good, it adds weight and doesn't work lot of the time but it should stop the smaller thorns or splinters from halting play.

yeap, have the slime. it;s great. i had a similar problem a while ago. when i had a spoke replaced and the guy didn't replace the rim tape so still had a hole in tape. kept on pinching the innertube.

where are you riding?

if riding on paths and canalsides, dont forget farmers trim the hedges september time, so thorn punctures are a plenty.

rode a route ive ridden a dozen times this year with no probs, rode it last week and got 4 punctures frown. dont bother with slime. it's messy, fussy and heavy.

50mks of stans sealer works very well.It does however make some tyres delaminate over a 3-6 month period.
For any interested roadies out there, i've been testing stans sealer @ 20mls injected into tubulars recently. At 140psi, its proving real good....wheel changes in races may become a thing of the past.
