What are they?

Most reliable:

Deore LX rapidfire rear shifter. It's over 7 years old now and I'm still using it today! It even outlived the front one.

Factory built disc hubbed wheel I got with my Scott Team racing. This is also over seven years old, has seen a huge amount of mileage and abuse and yet it's still in ok condition. It's a Wilderness Trail Bikes 'Speed Disc' rim, and Novatec cartridge bearing hub. The hub is similar to a Hope and uses the same size of bearings so they have been replaced a couple of times and I have replaced numerous individual broken spoke over the years. Still works though.

Least Reliable:

Scott branded freehub - it either kept seizing or breaking approximately every three months - awful.

'00 Magura Clara disc brakes. Nigh on impossible to set up well and needed constant attention/bleeding.

I am not sure anything on my bikes is "that" old to say reliable and unreliable.

Components that I have that I would by again Chris King Headset has out lasted the Hope ones I did used to use previously. I think it's tempting fate to say reliable smile

Not so much unreliable but worst component is a Lizard Skin Jumbo Chainstay Protector on the Five it just looked awful just didn't fit right had to take them off they lasted 1 ride.

Snapped my chain on a specialized stumpjumper after 200 miles and freewheel ceased up temporarily!

Nothing much else has gone wrong yet.

My original Flite Ti saddle. Must be about 13 years old now and is still going strong. Fits like a glove too.

Also a set of Deore crank arms from around 1990. Seen action on loads of bikes and still feel fine(though I no longer use them).

Avid SD1.9 brakes on my Marin, still super-sweet after 8-9 years of abuse.

Does a whole bike count? I've got a '95 Marin Palisades Trail at home which is still in daily use as a commuter, the only things i've replaced are the tubes, tyres and gear/brake cables, it's absolutely brilliant.

In 12 years, haven't you ever had to replace the chain, cassette, and chainrings due to them wearing out?

No, remarkably, although I should point out I wasn't suggesting it has been in daily use for the last 12 years, just the last year. It had some midly heavy XC use in it's first 3 years but since then it's been used for a casual rides and for the last 12 months Mrs WC has used it for commuting to work and back. I replaced the cables before she started using it as they were a little sticky and at the start of the summer bought some semi slick tyres for her as the originals had cracks in the side walls.

reliable::
98 XTR rear mech - 7 years including countless jockey wheels.
circa 94 suntour XC pro thumbies, STILL working, will keep forever.
circa 92 pair of oakley mumbos with persimmon lens (orangey ones) apparently called A frames these days!
pulsar hubs
Maxxis minion dual ply tackies... superb tyres, wear heavy but so strong.

unreliable::
Yeti rear hangers (made from jelly), managed 4 breaks in a week (2 in one ride!)
Marin team roller bearing headsets, utter pants, not waterproofing ability what so ever.
IRC mythos semi-slick tyres... want to learn to drift? buy these they cant grip at all and you can drift whereever you go!
Sugino mighty cranks, bent drive arm, 3 sets in less than two weeks
Mavic 231 rims, as above 3 sets in 11 days, again far too light, changed for sun rhinos which lasted years.
black spokes, look good but the acid finish removes strength, pants...

fancy a rohloff for the list on the reliability front.
