Game time.

Right, atom111 has bought a new ali hardtail to build up as a Trail bike. He is being very secretive about it.

So it's the perfect opportunity for you guys out there in PH land to try and guess what he's bought. No prizes and obviously atom111 can't enter.

Criteria:

It needs to be Aluminium.

It needs to be new - waiting around for frames to appear on eBay or such like is not an option.

He doesn't do jumping or tricks but does do singletrack trails like Sidewinder at Afan, or the Grand Canyon on the Skyline, or Gomez at Coed.

It is replacing a steel Orange Clockwork, one of the new limited edition ones, which is being reconfigured into Road set-up with a set of nice Pace RC31's. So the frame will need to take 100-140mm forks (100mm ones are currently on the CW).

It needs to be a 14 or 15inch and disc compatible.

The frame needs to be less than £400 (I know, a Stiffee would be ideal).

Right let's hear your recommendations.

Did consider the Pace but no.

To make it easier here is the receipt but unfortunatley anything useful is blurred out when it uploaded but you can work the price out smile

If you do guess right I will say.

I think it's an Orange EVO8 or a Rock Lobster Team Tig SL but as he seems to have purchased it yesterday I am discounting the RL. It could be the SC though.

Ahhh! Now the receipt has appeared we can see that it cost £350. Which is cheaper than the EVO8.

My initial comment wasn't based on the receipt as it hadn't appeared in the thread it was based on your mail last night.

Is it from the Kona range?

Is that a 'no' to both, cause if you have bought a Stiffee for £350 I want to know where?!

Give us a clue - nationality? Mainstream or 'boutique'?

People on singletrackworld would bum it...

Dialled bikes/cotic/pace/litespeed etc... rarer, not likely to be found in Leisure lakes/EBC/Evans...

Not Kona, Trek, Specialized, GT, etc etc...

Perhaps not the easiest question to answer!

snorag think you done a good job of defining boutique.

I think the manufacturer falls between boutique and mass market really need to find a work for that. A bit like Orange in my opinon. Although there are a lot Orange's about now they are still a relatively small producer of bikes and are unlikely to be a volume player.

And no it's not a Trek, Marin, or Specialised.

I am hoping that when a post my new ride on Singletrack it won't be dissed obviously everything will be lined up smile But you can never tell what's in favour but I think Marin's get the biggest stick on there and they are good bikes had a couple myself.

I now know the answer. But I'm not going to share. I will give some clues though:

1. The manufacturer is not mainstream but not as exclusive as those mentioned.

2. It is a 2008 frame and not discounted.

3. Its white.
