I find the 2.2 tyres on my bike a little too fat.
Any good all-weather tyres out there?

Hutchinson are always good IMO, although i'm currently running Schwalbe Nobby Nic's, seem alright, but were a PITA to get on the rims.

I run Panaracer XC Pro 2.1's. That, although a bit pita on the road off road I've found them great all rounders. They're narrow 2.1's too, so are nearer 2.0. Alternatively, Maxiss High Rollers are good too, again pita on the road.

Not wanting to get into a technical debate but at the same pressure wider / larger tyres roll faster than smaller / narrower tyres. Although in practice as you would run a skinnier tyre at a higher pressure you don't tend to notice.

When you say 'pita', do you mean in terms of grip, or just horrendous road noise?

I mean that they are an off-road tyre not an on-road tyre. Therefore, they will be draggy and hard going on tarmac (compared to a road tyre like the Schwalbe Marathon). Noisy too, but they're not meant for the road. They will also have less grip on road than a dedicated road tyre.

If your off-road riding comprises of tow paths and fire roads then a treaded road tyre - like the Marathon - would be more than adequate. Remembering to drop the pressure down from the 70psi used on the road of course! I have riden my local loop from Reigate Hill to Box Hill on a set of 1.75 Marathon Plus's many times without too much problems.

I ride mostly XC stuff - round Reigate/Leith/Box/Pitch hills. Some road stuff, but I don't mind riding that with knobblies. If I'm going to be doing loads of road riding, I'll use my road bike!

I'm slightly biased towards the Panaracers, as I used Fire XC tyres on my old bike.

I run 2.1 Kevlar beads and Stan's No Tubes system without any problems. A mate of mine runs the UST versions in his Mavic wheels no probs too.
