How do I get my tyres to seat properly?

Hi Guys,

I've got a problem at the moment which I've never had before. Having repaired punctures on both wheels recently, I had what felt like buckled wheels. On closer inspection, what has happened is that over a length of about 3-4 inches on each wheel the tyres have stayed closer to the rim than elsewhere, effectively creating a flat spot.

Does the above make sense? If so, can anyone tell me how to fix the problem?

Little bit of GT85 (or equiv) on the tyre bead and rim edge helps, as does pumping the tyre up to silly pressure using a track pump, then deflating.

I use a 50/50 solution of fairy liquid/water when fitting tires, brush it on round the bead.

Fit them, blow em up to 60 psi, then let em down to about about 20 and go round bouncing them on the floor, to get the bead even all round. The set to pressure.

I just let them down to about 10PSI and bump the wheel on the floor while rotating it, if that makes sense.

Thats the way I have always used to seat tyres, never had one blow off yet, and fitted thousands.
