I get a similar thing, but it's probably mostly to do with a couple of the balls from my rear bearing being on the garage floor somewhere.

Sounds like the rear wheel needs a service or the quick release tightening properly!

wow, scary, glad you are ok,

i have in the past experienced something similar but luckily not so extreme,

its a bit like wheel wobble from balance probs on a cars steering at speed, but worse,

turn your bike upside down and give the rear wheel a real good crank up to speed if its bouncing up and down like hell, you have more than likly wacked it and it needs trueing, have you got play in the axle, are the bearings noisey, if you can not replace or adjust time for a new hub and or rim,

my friend did however stop on the ride the other week after the back wheel did not feel right when manueling and hopping over stuff, to find he had not tighten up the quick release after getting the bike out of the car,

how his wheel did not come off with the stuff he was doing before, i never know,

hope you sort your wheel out.

I'd bet your tire is not seated properly.

Let all the air out, reseat the bead. Put 15psi in, go round it again squishing it into the rim till its evenly seated, the put up to pressure.
