Hi,

I've been trying to adjust my front mech prior to an early morning ride I was planning for tommorrow, and have totally F'd up the settings.

Currently:

The chain sits on the smallest front, largest rear fine... but for large front, and smallest rear combination - I have two clicks on the biggest front ring - the second one pushes the chain off the chainset if you turn the cranks... click down and you go straight from largest to smallest ring.

I'm assuming I adjust the H stop but have no idea which way to turn it as I've messed the settings up so much, turning either direction does not seem to help the matter (and is very fiddly due to the rear suspension arrangement).

An internet search says 'adjust' H till correct.. no indication wether this is clockwise or anticlockwise. Trial and error has failed, so I'm hoping for a bit of advide.

My morning ride is looking doubtfull unless I get this sorted!

Thanks - very much appreciated.

The site has the information:

"If chain shifts off the outside of the large chainring, the outer-limit is set too loose. Tighten H-screw limit and test shift again."

What does tighten mean? Does that mean move the screw further into the mech so there is less of the screw showing?

Appologies for the dumb question, its the first time I've adjusted a front mech!

I've worked it out. Thanks,

I now have all gears back and am set for the ride tomorrow. Some gears sound a bit rough, but I can work round this during the ride and fettle the bike when I get back.

Yes, righty-tighty, lefty loosey. Turn the screw "in" (rather than back it out) to have the outside of the derailleur cage end up closer to the seat tube. Think of the front derailleur as a set of book ends. You don't want your chain (books) to fall off the chainring (shelf)...smile
