Been out of the saddle so to speak for a while and am now looking to spend up to £600-650 on a new steed.

Having priviously ridden various Marin Full Sus bikes the early Quake 5 / 9 and Mountvision with Hope Biguns and Bomber Z1's. I am looking to get a hardtail with decent forks and disks.

I haven't kept my finger on the pulse so to speak by I expect that Shimano disks will be good as will the Avid Juicy 3's????

Ditto for LX/XT/XTR groupsets.

Santa Cruz were always good, what about this one? What are peoples thought on value?

Santa Cruz Chameleon

Whilst we are at it I have also looked at Specialized Rockhopper Disk 07 (Can get one for 560 instead of the rrp 650) and am going into Maidenhead to see the new Giants next week. What is the XTC 3.5 like?

Cheers for all the help!

Doesn't looklike anyone's bidding. If you can get that for 500-600 quid you'd be doing pretty well I recon. Why not keep an eye on it and stick in a few bids towards the end of the auction?

As for the other two. Well, you can't really go wrong with either but you know you want the Santa Cruz:P

I might call him and ask who built the bike and what the frame number is etc.... As I am guessing that there are loads of stolen bikes on fleabay. I had my 2.5k bike nicked out the shed and know what its like.

It's amazing how many people are selling bikes for there "mates" because they don't have accounts, why? Because people won't bid on people with no feedback or some other reason?

Considering the frame is £400 on its own and its got decent spec then if you can get it for £500-£550 then its a good buy.

2nd hand Chameleon frames go for 200-250 in my experience.

So £500 would be a good price for that bike. Give yourself a contingency fund to replace cables, chain and maybe the odd part here and there.

I looked at one of these. It came down to a Chameleon or a Chase. If you can get it for £500 ish then looks like a good buy. The large frame is equivelent to most peoples medium.

I ended up with a connondale chase and swapped / purchased bits to build it for the right spec. Managed to get the complete bike in the sale from Evans for £530 and flea bay the bit's I didn't want for £250.

It also depends what stuff you want to ride. For more XC I would say the Santa Cruz for more Trails / Jump I would say the Chase.
