Doubt it. Even on a steel framed monster there'd probably not be enough to trigger an induction loop or reflect a radar signal back.

I was wondering that too the other day. So it's good to hear the answer is no. Even if we could there would be no way to trace who it was anyway.

There's a clip on a mountain bike dvd of Rob Warner setting a speed camera off on a bike with a fan on his back.

Presumably to give something capable of reflecting the radar signal?

I've been told by friends that they've done it. Whether or not they were bending the truth remains to be seen though.

Can a scooter then or not?

I've had a pretty good go at it and failed, pretty definitively, at least as far as the classic radar 'Gatso' cameras are concerned.

What? Exceed 30mph?
Sensible answer: the moped's engine block will show up to radar / induction loops I'd guess.

Still don't think it would have registered on the radar without the engine in the fan!

Why not?

Is a cyclists signature really that small compared to a scooter or motorbike for it to become invisible to Gatso?

Flesh & bone are pretty transparent to radar.

Big chunks of metal aren't!

A friend of mine claims success at this.

He did it on a long downhill stretch coming off Epsom Downs with a metal tray strapped to his back. Whether you would be able to get up to 30+ on the flat with the need to pedal hard whilst carrying a large metal tray on your back is another matter though!

If you could, imagine the fun you could have with messages on the back of the tray. biggrin

Do ANPR cameras ditinguish whether the plate they read is on a car or not, or just scan for DVLA registered shapes, and dish out fines like smarties?

Just occured that it could be open to abuse should one want to clock up kengestion charges for people that have annoyed them rolleyes

If you'll try that then I'll try 45mph past a camera in a 30 limit with a tea-tray up my jumper. Deal?

Yeah round Richmond!

Easier way to test out wherther a cyclist can or can't is to find one in a 20 mph zone.

Although not Gatsos' are live all the time.
