Hi Guys,

Why do we have both of the above?

As far as I can see, both fit perfectly well on my MTB, so is there any reason why I should choose one over the other?

The little nut to keep the Schraeder valve in place when fitting is nice, but on the other hand, I've had a couple of Schraeder valves fail, whereas I've not once had a problem with Prestas.

Cheers,

Chris.

Some good information on this thread the other day

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

For myself I use presta, as I can then use the same pump for either my mountain bike or road bike, so it means I dont get caught out with wrong pump. Presta was originally designed for high pressure applications, as the woods type of valve could not hold that kind of pressure, and the hole in the rim would have to be larger which was not a possibility on road rims.

Which you choose for MTB applications is personal, I have my rims drilled to take either, but fit prestas, why have rims drilled for both, well you have the option of borrowing a tube of any denomination if you have a real problem.

I switched from presta valva to a shrader valve (car type), mainly because I could never get enough pressure in with the presta pump. So now its 50 PSI all the time with a footpump of airline.
