Dear All,

What forks should i get for my Cove Stiffee. I currently have some Rockshox Dart 3s on there as they were given to me at the time i was building the bike (to be fair they are OK but i realise i need to upgrade before i start doing some serious stuff on the bike).

I have been looking at either Marzocchi or Fox forks, possibly also Magura but fancy a change as i have them on my other bike, and not wanting to sound a poseur or anything, but the forks i purchase also have to be silver/grey or even white in order to go with the rest of the bike.

I am no pro, so i do not want to be spending ridiculous amounts of money(maybe £300 to £350 max), just something decent that will last and do the job for XC trails

regards

Greg

Fox Float 130 or 140mm.

My I bought Talas with mine and mucked around with the different travel lengths but settled on the max 130mm as it really didn't detract from going up but made huge difference going down.

Or Rockshock Pikes although I think they are all through axles not quick release.

To be frank Fox ALWAYS comes out on top in the tests when all is taken into account.

If you're quick you can get 20% off a Wiggle still or Leisure Lakes Bikes are doing 10-15% off the Fox range.

Take it the build went well then?

Thanks Stuart,

the build went fine - no tricky moments at all thankfully. Would definitely advise anyone to give it a go. it gives you so much more confidence about mending/fiddling with bikes once you have done this

Just read a review of the 2008 Fox Vanilla RLC's (spring as opposed to air can) in MBR and they reckon they are the nuts (9 out of 10) although they stated that the Vanilla R is the one to go for and would get a 10. Cheaper than the Floats too. But springs can sound a bit 'pingy' over the really rough stuff.

The Pikes are QR and 20mm bolt through. They're pretty light and perform fantastically. I bought some for my Patriot a year or so ago and they've been flawless. Ideal if you want strength and precision. They're good for me as I weight 14.5 stone so I can't really have twangy lightweight forks. They've done Brechfa and Cwm Carn with no bother at all. clap

I'm 15 stone and my Talas have been buttery smooth since buying them new in 2003.

I have a cove Stiffee FR 06 and i am going to replace the forks this friday, i have Marzocchi 04 Bomberfree rides with 20mm through axle and 130mm travel, at the moment but they are past their best and fork technology has moved on.

I would advise you go for a pair of silver Rockshox Pikes in silver, you can get them in your budget if you shop around, with either QR or 20mm axle, they are really good, although i have purchased and got a deal on some rockshox lyrics coil u turn, as i want a bit more travel and more all mountain set up as opposed to XC, i reckon the pikes are on it for the money,

Fox shocks are ok, but pricey and sometimes a bit clicky in my limited experience, but hey maybe it was just the ones i tried.

good luck
