I need help before I throw my bike in the river. . . .

I've ridden about 650 miles on my bike and had one puncture. . . .until now. Bike is Flat bar Claude Butler road bike.

The sequence of events:

Last Satuday: I did the Essex coast bike ride (approx 60 miles) On finishing the ride laid the bike down on the grass for a few minutes. Whilst the bike was on the grass the back tube burst. Replced it and inflated with a co2 cannister enough to get me home.

Sunday: Topped up the tyre with my track pump. Tube burst. Also noticed the front had burst. WTF!

Monday: 2 new tubes. Front inflated fine. Back burst just after 80psi. Check ed the old tube and they went in exactly the same place.

Wednesday: New tube, very carefully installed. Checked wheels for anything causing bursts. Inflated to 100psi fine. 10 minute test ride. All is well.

Saturday: Gone to garage to check bike for sunday morning ride. Two punctures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhhh!

What Am I doing wrong??????????

Check the rim tape is both intact and aligned, thoroughly check the tyres for sharp items, or defects, a visual check first if this turns up nothing, then carefully feel. Dont fit tyres using levers either, thumbs is all you need (and an enjoyment of pain occasionally)

Dont chuck it in the river, you wont see it again if the river is anything like it is here wet and flooded.

I have had this recently on a six month old bike. The tyres kept blowing each trip on the wheel side of the tube even though there was no noticeable sharp points and the rubber type rim 'tape' was in place properly. In the end I have used a cloth type sticky backed tape for a couple of pounds and put the original rubber type one on top. Dare I say it, so far ok.

Take the tyre off and run your fingers around the inside to check for sharp things.

Then turn the tyre inside out, and repeat (this opens up cracks where glass etc might be hiding).

Also check for small splits in the tyre, in particular the sidewall. These often don't show up until the tube is inflated, and they don't cause punctures immediately, but at some point they will pinch the tube and cause another flat.
