Anyone thinking of doing one of the British Heart Foundation rides?

no web link - Hamsterly Forest, Durham Dales

I'm thinking of doing 'swr' - 65 or 100 miles MTB in the South West.

Seeing as ya' miserable lot ain't answered . . . . . . I would like some advice.

I reckon the most I've rdden in one go off road is only around 20 miles. On road it's about 40 miles.
Now I'm doing a 'sprint' triathlon in August (750m swim, 22km Ride, 5km run) and I currently ride and swim 2-3 times a week, while running once ('cause I hate running).

2 questions:
1. Would I be mad to attempt the 90/100 mile off road ride (.../swr above) or should I stick to 65 miles?
2. Do I need to do more training than I am currently?

Depends but if it was me I'd be doing at least a bit more training on longer rides.

My regular stuff is similar distance to yours, 15/20 miles on/off road once a week and 2 or 3 30ish mile road rides, sometimes pushing it on my own, sometimes taking it easier with the lads. But did a 60 mile on/off road "cyclosportif" in April, as prep for which did several 50 mile hilly road rides which did the trick. Then a couple of 90/100 mile road rides in Majorca (team holiday/p*** up trip) and about a month ago a 135 mile road ride which is the furthest I've done in a day. The gradual build up definitely helped, I might have been able to do the 135 miles without the build up but I would have been less confident.

100 miles, if truly "off road", is a helluva long ride in my view though so unless you're a super human athlete who's being modest I'd say you'd be mad to even contemplate it without some sort of prep that goes beyond your normal.

(edit) Just looked at the SWR - looks great, shame it's wrong end of country. Definitely train for it though otherwise do the 65 and the 90 the year after if the 65's too easy.

Ta.

From your reply, I reckon I need to do more distance training.
