london to brighton on a stumpy
Discussion
well, my bianchi road bike was stolen last week and i finally finished building my stumpy fsr... and now a colleague wants to ride to Brighton this weekend.
is it worth taking off the chunky ust tyres i've just fitted to put some slicks on, or should i just see it as a chance for a bit more exercise and road cycle on the off road tyres?
The ust's are full of stans gunk and i could really do without the hassle of changing, but am i going to hate a 60 mile ride on road on chunky tyres? (i guess i know the answer already!)

I would imagine the tyres will wear quicker on the road die to the softer compound, but I doubt it will be too noticable after only 60 miles. Depends how soft they are.
I rode round the Isle of Wight a couple of weeks ago, and didn't find the standard Stumpy tyres a hindrance. Just make sure you pump them right up.

Its a conundrum!!
I recently converted my hard tail Kona to slick tyres, as I intended to do several long road rides and I have found the difference really noticeable, the handling and braking on tarmac are defo improved and the efficiency is so much better I find it really helps. Most notably though is downhill speed, on knobblys I would hard pushed to get to 38/40mph on steep hills and now i am hitting 45-50 quite easily on the same hills.
I rode London to Brighton last Sunday and really felt the slick tyres made a difference, but I wanted to push on and make the most of the downhills, If i was just coasting along with a mate for fun off-road tyres would have been fine, just less efficient.
