Yes.
This is the best way to learn to ride by far.
What happends when you put a kind on a pedal bike with stabilisers is they sit on it, with their feet up. and then mess about with the pedals till they move, then after a while you take the stabilisers off, and voila, as soon as they put there feet up they fall over without even moving.
However, by learning on one of these, they scoot along, dragging their feet, eventually going further and further without touching the gorund, and learn great balance.
After which, the transition to a regular bike is easy peasy.

I was thinking, why not just get an appropriate kids bike for them and take the pedals off, zip-tie one crank to a chain stay and wrap the cranks with pipe insulation (to save their ankles). Then when they are ready, put the pedals back on, etc and they are off riding.
Not sure if this will save money in the long run (hard to do when they grow like weeds), but it's a though.

the problem with that is the smallest kiddy bikes i can see ( admittedly i havent looked very hard or for vey long ) are too big.
my bro got one for his 3.5 yr old and he can get on it great.. but my 2's feet barely get any where near comming close to the ground!!!
these ones are much lower.
online thogh, the pricese for the 2 are quite similar, so if i cant find a 2nd one of these training bikes, i suppose ill get a normal bike and strip it down.
do bike shops sell blanking caps for bike cranks ?

Something like this may work:

It appears to be a very common 12" so shop around for price.
As far as caps to protect the inside of the bottom bracket when disassemble, probably not. You might be able to find a can of Framesaver:
http://shop.18bikes.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b3s4...
or a coat of grease, thinned down linseed oil brushed inside the bottom bracket, then duct tape over the holes.
There are lots of 12" bikes out there these days that say the are suitable for 2 year olds. Just depends on what size yours happen to be.

The one i got is called "Funrider" and it looks identical to the one in the bottom pic, except its silver.
the instructions arnt in english though, and i cant find any refrence to it on the net at all.
i'll try having a talk to the shop owner and try and find out where they got it from. ( as i do still need another one )
