I currently use an Isuzu Rodeo for my dirty weekends, its great esp if you want to shuttle, does 5 bikes and 5 people easily and its pretty good offroad.

However its slow as hell, abit thirsty, crap for long journeys and with a possible move to london parkings could become a problem.

So im in the market for something smaller and a bike rack. Im looking for something quickish for about 20-25k that I can get the bikes inside if nessecary and can get me out of a muddy field if necessary.

Current thinking is a subaru forester XT, seems to fit the bill fairly well and I'll be taking one for a test drive soon, anyone use one for their bikes already? any other cars that might fit the bill?

thanks.

Currently have a Forester and the bikes fit in fine with the front wheel off. Its also great on dirt roads. If most of your driving is on tarmac and its just the occasional muddy field, try a Subaru Liberty/Legacy estate. Its that bit bigger inside and the bikes can go straight in without taking any wheels off. It still has AWD, though with feck all ground clearance. A 3.0-litre, flat six would be nice...

For London you need this: if only to annoy the greenies.

However if you are moving to London, I would suggest this:

Lexus RX400H - 4.0l V8, Fairly quick, big enough, but Congestion Charge free biggrin

However, bad news? Not many available, and £35k upwards from what I can see...

X3

Audis expensive and thirsty. Volvo is absolutely crap quality. Don't know about the Murano, but it looks like a shoe.

Forester sounds like a decent choice for your needs, but it doesn't handle well at all. Also, looked into the VW Jetta wagon? Do you get them in England? I don't know much about them, they just seem similar to the Forester, and would definitely handle better.
