Gave my beloved XTC proper end of summer clean over the weekend - rather than the usual splash of soapy water, it was a proper rub down and check.

Glad I did, cos the paint is bubbling in several places - bottom of the head tube, under the down tube, around all four bottle cage screws, and the brake/cable housings have rubbed the paint through to the alu at the top of the down tube. The back end, which gets all the gunk is fine, bar a few stonechips.

Anyone else had this happen? The frames about 2 1/2 years old. I'm at the wait-and-see stage with the bike shop I bought it from.

Cheers

Powder coated by any chance?

Aluminium corrosion does happen where the paint surface is broken and having disimilar metals in these areas, such as steel bottle cage bolts can speed up the process. But it shouldn't be that bad and not at all on the down tube, hopefully giant will spot you a new frame.

Well, it took a while to get sorted, but the bike shop are currently building my parts onto a new XTC Zero frame. Which is rather nice, and no quibbling on their part so well done Giant.

Well, its usually just water, but I was still surprised at the amount of bubbling - not just around the steel screws, but elsewhere on the frame. Not had it on any other alu frame.
