Just ordered a CycleOps Fluid 2 from Wiggle and a set of slicks so I can keep up with some excersize now the Mrs is working in the evenings for the forseeable. Has anyone got any tips how to use it though, I've never even seen a turbo trainer before let alone ridden one.

Towels over the bike, a Yellow Pages for the front wheel and some ear plugs.

Even though the Cyclo-ops thing is *supposed* to be quiet, they still make a racket.

I never got on with them, as I could keep a smooth spinning action up, but other swear by them...

I've been using one for a while now to try to get some exercise in the evenings.

I have a spacer under the front wheel so the bike is level (a piece of MDF matches for me), I have my hear rate monitor on and then I use some Shure noise reducing ear phones and just watch the telly or a film to help pass the time.

You get very warm due to the lack of air movement over you but they do work.

The trainer was delivered yesterday, within half an hour I was pretty knackered. I got a strange satisfaction seeing how long I could keep a constant pace in top without actually going anywhere, although I doubt this will make a good long term training regime. This morning my legs definately feel like they've done some work, I think i'll watch the DVD it cam with tonight and see if I can't put a little structure into my efforts.

On the face of it a good purchase I think.

I preffer rollers to turbo trainers. I found I developed a bad rocking whilst riding on the tt which I took out on to the road when I was racing. Rollers are quieter as well and with the right tyre combo you can get you hair to stand on end.
