A friend has bought a steel framed Marin from a mate who emigrated, we've been trying to adjust the seat height but it is siezed, tried soaking in wd40 and a long bar to no avail, removed the saddle and used a lump hammer to try to knock the post down to free it, no joy. I suspect some kind of electrolytic welding kind of thing has gone on, don't suppose it's been adjusted for 10 years.
Any ideas

Friendly bike shop + seatpost reamer + readies = seatpost removed.

Hope that helps

They have should have specific tools for this.

Have you tried taking the wheels out, turning the bike upside down and clamping the seat post hard in a bench vice, then use the frame as a lever to try freeing it that way.

I think you can try heating the post or the frame too, although I'm not 100% sure which way round you would need to do it, depends which metal expands the most I guess!

If all else fails you may have to try cutting the post off and cutting it in to pieces from the inside, not a quick job!
