Trek 4500 07 model

Hi newbie here looking for some help.
Been lurking around here for ages so decided to take the plunge and get a "profesional" opinion on the trek 4500.
I have just joined my companys "cycle to work" scheme and i am thinking about this as my bike, will spend up to £500 on a bike but to be honest i havent got a clue.
Is there a better bike out there for light trailing for that kind of money.

Looked at these recently, seem good, but Trek 6000 has a great frame at £550

I just bought a 6000 today and am picking it up tomorrow. 550 with disc brakes

Thanks for the replies folks, i have placed my order today for a trek 4500 through the cycle 2 work scheme.£400 bike for £290 not a bad deal. Thanks again.
