I've got XT hydraulics on my Orange, and I think I am going to need new pads soon. Is it best to get Shimano pads, or are there better pads out there?

Did you have a problem with the way the old ones performed?

No, but they are the only ones I have used, so have nothing to compare to. I am quite happy with them, but if there is a better option then I might as well go for that.

Just go for Metal Shimano pads. Put a bit of water on them when you go for the first ride.

Only EBC are the other trusted brand - same price - same quality, but slightly more range as you can get different grades (IIRC) green, red and gold (sintered).

TBH though, Shimano stuff rocks and you'll probably not see any difference changing.

I tried a grippier compound from EBC in my XTs and to be honest it wasn't worth it

Shimano it is I think, guessing they come fitted with the metal pads when new? I shall have to take one out to see what compound I have already so I can get the same.

Has anyone had any problems getting hold of EBC pads recently?

When I changed my pads a month or so ago, I was after some EBC for my Avid Juicy 5's, but everywhere was out of stock, and there weren't anywhere where they could get a sensible re-supply date.

I bought a couple of sets for my 5's from Wiggle a few months ago.
Haven't used 'em yet, so if you're really stuck I'm sure we could work something out...

Actually, I've just checked on Wiggle and they're showing as "discontinued"...

Very nice to offer, but I settled for some standard ones in the end that weren't appreciably different.

Noticed they were shown as discontinued when I looked too .... bet you got the last ones a second before my mouse click hehe

Just means that the sticker on my frame is a bit of a lie now

CRC usually sell the most common disc brake pads in sets of 4 so it works out a little cheaper, and at the end of the day with a few muddy rides you will get through them.
