as my new (Made in China) bike has resin V brakes and today as I was adjusting the screws to centre them...............one of the stops the screw acts against broke off!!!

I have seen shimano Altera brakes on the web for only £6.95 each and just wondered if they were made of proper Aluminium or poxy resin?

No idea but the Deore brakes are bloody fantastic for the money.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/V-Brakes-Shiman - the Brakes. Not idea if these have pads as I was far too lazy to actually read the auction .

I bought a pair of these for my girlfriends crappy bike. Got some third-party v-brake levers but the end result was pretty damned good! Before the old brake levels would flex as they were plastic. As would the crappy cantelever brakes. But now they work a treat. Only cost a total of about 20 quid for the whole set including cables and everything. Top buy thumbup

Local bike shop supplied & fitted Deore V brakes (inc blocks) for £15 a set.

Lovely quality alloy and they work very well.
