Seen a few mtb's like that. Thing is, it would be absolutely useless off road.

Its more like a cross bike with the wrong wheels!

Looks cool though.

My XC bike weight about 33lbs. Steel.

weight weenies is a really useful site though!

Mmmmm....flexy

But obviously not a true believer in weight loss, the disc brake mount is still on the fork!

It was exactly my thought - however I'd love to have a go on someone elses bike...

It does give me some idea of where I can reliably lose some weight on the Trek - very interesting some of the weights on that site:

The XTR 06 chainset/bb combo is lighter than many Carbon chainset and light BB combos...for instance.

If it were mine, it would be:

* swings leg over *
* snaps bike *
* crawls to phone & dials 999 *
* cries like a girl *

Pete, you'd need to insert:

* Wifey divorces me * in there somewhere...

Funnily enough, I was worried about that with my carbon Y bike, so I got my LBS (Trek dealer) to check.
Apparently as they were primarily built for the American market, Trek decided *not* to put a max weight limit on the frame. thumbup

My Orange C16R / Clockwork is around 24lbs, and I've been riding that for about 7 years or so without a single failure.
And I weighed 12stone for most of that period too.

However I have seen ultra light ally bars fail dramatically.

Light is good, but only within reason.

Yep, I've snapped a set of bars before eek

Not a nice situation to be in when landing a jump - nor is it when you have 6 miles to get home

My Fat Chance is pretty lightweight and could easily lose a bit more by swapping the RC30s for the carbon version. Not sure on the actual weight but it's somewhere near 10kg IIRC and has been ridden pretty hard for 13 years now.

The risk of snapping bars is one of the (non-financial) reasons I'm happy with my standard Ali bars, and not got some Carbon bars. Landing a jump or drop and planting my face into the stem with a jagged piece of carbon sticking out the sides is not a nice thought.

I'd say the other way round for me - carbon bars have a better quality to them than some Alu bars I've seen...

However if you go Easton, youll never go wrong, carbon or otherwise.

I guess it depends what you're up for. We were out for a ride last night and stopped to let people catch up. Then some riders went past spinning at a constant cadence, turned down a bridleway and rode off. The fact they're missing out on some of the best singletrack in Bucks didn't really matter to them. So for that kind of riding, light bikes rule. But I'd prefer a 25lbs hardtail with Azonic risers, short stem and the strength to do jumps and drops if I feel like it.
