A bit of an odd question, but how do you measure the distance between your sit bones?
I notice some saddles are sold with a choice of sit-bone distance (in mm), but how can you get a measurement with any degree of accuracy?

stick a set squre between your arse cheeks, take the angle and times it by the size of your frame. then devide that number by the amount of tread you have left on your back wheel.
If you then take the answer you get and minus 17.5% for vat you should get the answer.......

Dare you to book an appointment with your GP to find out.

Hardly wasting his time any more than the "sick" that clutter up the waiting rooms on the times that I have been in utter agony and had no option to go to the doctor.

Go to any decent Specialized bike dealer - they have a tool to measure the size of your ass. The Ass-o-meter.

I am not kidding.

There is also one for determining the arch of your feet, but I can't remember the comedy name of that one.

Yes, just like that. I swear.

I used to do it - you sit the customer down on this board that has a gel-like cushion, legs off the ground. As they stand up there are marks left, which you measure off, and a quick conversion table which shows you what width saddle you need.

The foot one is a pressure sensitive material, it shows the arch of your foot and also whether you pro or supernate (or whatever its called, wonky foot syndrome) which helps when fitting shoes, and also when setting cleats up.

Buy a leather Brooks saddle, once broken in it will fit like a glove They mould themselves to your backside.

Thanks for all the replies. I tried my own approximate mesurement after reading this...

www.bromleybike.co.uk/ishop/399/shopscr2924.html

...which was 110mm, so according to this table...

www.bromleybike.co.uk/ishop/399/shopscr2323.html

...I need a 143mm saddle, but I think I'll go to a Specialized dealer to get a proper Ass-ometer reading!

haha i would be so wary of walking into a dealer and saying 'measure my ass please!' just in case these guys were taking the mickey

Although I dont believe they are! I would just have that niggling doubt...
